The addition to its expanding portfolio of properties in the South Pacific was announced today by Wyndham’s Asia Pacific chief executive officer Barry Robinson.

Wyndham already owns one other resort near Cairns and has been scouting for another north Queensland asset for some time.

Its latest acquisition will be managed by Wyndham Hotel Group under its Ramada hotel brand.

The property will be renamed Ramada Resort Port Douglas.

Wyndham’s purchase of the property includes the acquisition of 194 hotel rooms as well as management rights.

It is planning a $5 million-plus refurbishment of the resort and will operate it as a mixed-use property that is run under the Ramada brand with a portion of vacation ownership.

The hotel rooms will be reconfigured over the next 12 months resulting in the transfer of 86 apartments and hotel rooms for use by Wyndham’s 44,000 vacation club owners.

“We are delighted to establish our presence in this area under the strength and reputation of the international Ramada brand,” Mr Robinson said.

“We are committed to the expansion of our portfolio in leading tourism destinations such as Port Douglas.”
