Outrigger Hotels & Resorts is celebrating another significant milestone after being named Australasia’s Leading Hotel Brand for 2011, at the World Travel Awards’ gala evening held in Bangkok, Thailand.
The prestigious accolade runs in tandem with the hotel group announcing last week, it had purchased the management rights for the 414-room hotel in Surfers Paradise on Queensland’s Gold Coast that currently operates as Holiday Inn.
The World Travel Awards, established in 1993, recognise and celebrate excellence in the tourism industry and draws over 200,000 nominations from travel agents and industry executives worldwide; independent judges then stringently vet nominees.
Outrigger Hotels & Resorts’ Regional General Manager-Australia, Grant James said the group, which is rapidly expanding throughout the Asia-Pacific, was delighted with its latest accolade.
“The award is testimony to the positive brand recognition the industry has for Outrigger worldwide and why we have such a strong following among guests and industry partners.
“We devote a lot of time into nurturing our staff and fostering our core brand values of service and family that naturally filter on to our guests,” Mr James added.
“Given that the nomination process is arbitrated by a group of independent industry heads throughout the course of the year, we are honoured and humbled to receive such high recognition by our peers,” he added.
This is the second time Outrigger has won the coveted Australasian hotel brand of year, with its first award received in 2006.
The Asia & Australasia ceremony in Thailand marks the fourth leg of World Travel Awards 2011 Grand Tour, and follows gala ceremonies in Dubai, UAE; Antalya, Turkey; and Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The regional winners will then progress to the Grand Final on December 11 in Qatar.
